Dear Federal Government: Go To Hell

by Michael Boldin

NOTE: The following was based on a speech given at a freedom rally hosted by State sovereignty advocate and Washington State Representative Matt Shea on Aug. 30.

Almost everyone I know has written a letter to the Federal government. Many of them have contacted their Representatives or Senators at some point. They have emailed, faxed or even called — asking, demanding or just plain begging these politicians to do something or not.

I never have.

Why? Because I believe it is an absurd idea to ask the Federal government to fix problems it created, and that doing so just doesn’t work.

For example, those on the antiwar left got a “peace President” who has bombed Libya and massively expanded the wars in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Many of those same progressives vehemently opposed the Patriot Act forced upon us by former President George W. Bush and the Republicans. With the Democrats in power, they got more of the same. Again.

For those on the right, the so-called conservative Bush and the Republicans in Congress gave us more Federal control over education with their No Child Left Behind Act. They also laid the groundwork for today’s national healthcare mandates with the largest expansion of Federal control over healthcare in decades: Medicare Part D.

And for everyone, we’ve got the Transportation Security Administration. Because no one, at least no one I know, likes the fact that this particular agency violates the 4th Amendment almost constantly.

So, because of things like these, I’ve always thought it was pointless to write the Feds telling them anything. Until now.

I recently wrote a draft letter to my so-called Representatives in Washington. Before sending it to them, I thought I’d share it with you here to see if you have suggestions or if it meets your approval as is.

Here’s what I came up with:

“Dear Federal government: Go to hell!”

Out Of The Mainstream? Not At All

Start talking 10th Amendment, state sovereignty or — heaven forbid — nullification, and you will immediately find yourself branded as an extremist, a nut job, a radical and out of the mainstream. There’s even a supposedly nasty term for those of us who would dare advance such nutty principles: “Tenther.”

Well, apparently, the American majority is just plain nutty.

A Rasmussen poll released last Friday tells us that “54 percent of Likely U.S. Voters believe that states should have the right to opt out of federal programs they don’t agree with.” In other words, more than half of Americans now embrace the Constitutional concept of State sovereignty.

More telling than this small majority in support of such crazy ideas is the much smaller minority of people opposed to them. Only 31 percent of those polled disagreed and said States should not enjoy the ability to opt out.

Think about that for a moment, because it is significant. Less than one-third of the country opposes our base principle that each State can and should have a unique approach to handling various political issues.

Federalism Rules!

The Founders told us that such a system was not only a good idea, but also in line with the Constitution. They knew that one-size-fits-all solutions would lead to pretty much what we have today: a crumbling economy, liberty eroded and continual violations of the rules given to government.

Today, people everywhere are beginning to recognize a simple truth: What’s right for California is likely not right for Washington State, and what’s right for Idaho is likely not right for Alabama, and so on.

In fact, such a decentralized system (the system the Founders gave us in the Constitution) is the only kind in which people in a huge country like ours — with widely varying political, economic and religious beliefs — can all live peacefully together under a large defense umbrella.

John Adams famously told us that the real American Revolution was not the war for independence. He said:

The Revolution was effected before the war commenced. The Revolution was in the minds and hearts of the people; a change in their religious sentiments of their duties and obligations. … This radical change in the principles, opinions, sentiments, and affections of the people, was the real American Revolution.

Happening Right Now

Even more exciting than this poll is the fact that States around the country are putting this idea into practice.

In 1996, when my home state of California decided to opt out of Federal drug laws by allowing marijuana to be used for medical purposes, it was going it alone. But, soon other States recognized not only their own ability, but the possible benefit of opting out of this particular Federal program. Today, 15 States have done so, and they are increasingly getting away with it.

A few years ago, the American Civil Liberties Union championed State-level opposition to the REAL ID Act of 2005, which required States to follow Federal guidelines in issuing driver’s licenses. Since then, more than half the States have enacted legislation against participation, and all applied for or received extensions by the 2008 deadline.

Here we are six years later and it’s still not fully implemented, because States just won’t do it.

States opting out of Federal programs (at the Tenth Amendment Center, we refer to it as “nullification“) can be a pretty effective strategy. It’s far more effective than “voting the bums out” or writing a letter to Federal politicians, in my opinion.

States’ Rights: Not Just For Liberals

Better yet, this growing States’ rights movement is not just exclusive to progressives and the left. Conservatives have gotten on board with the idea in recent years; and they are becoming more effective with it, too.

A recent Washington Times article said: “All told, 17 states have enacted laws rejecting parts of the Affordable Care Act, according to a report by the National Council of State Legislatures.” And, as tracked by the Tenth Amendment Center, more than 10 states have begun to consider the next step, rejecting (read: nullifying) the entire Affordable Care Act — every word of it.

Going Mainstream

Rasmussen reported: “Support for states’ rights jumps higher when the question involves federally mandated programs with no checks attached. Sixty-three percent (63%) of voters think states should have the right to opt out of such programs if the federal government doesn’t help pay for them. Twenty-one percent (21%) disagree and 16% are undecided.”

What does that mean? Only one in five people believe the States should have to blindly comply with Federal mandates, no matter what. This is certainly good news, and something to build upon. We Tenthers are winning the ideological battle amongst the people.

In the end, it seems to me that Thomas Jefferson’s ideas from the Principles of ’98 have gone mainstream, as they should. He was far more eloquent than I when he wrote, “…the several states composing the United States of America are not united on the principle of unlimited submission to their general government…”

But, the message remains the same.

“Dear Federal government: Go to hell!”

NOTE: Michael Maharrey, communications director for the Tenth Amendment Center, contributed to this article.

We must transcend politics, but for those who are still thinking in terms of elections, and choosing a leader, that becomes difficult to comprehend. We must all be introduced to new concepts of perception and come to grips with the current exposure of arcane information. Consciousness is changing and gaining momentum on humanity, and there will be those who rule the material power who will be forced to flee, or be erased from this new found reality. Some would rather feel more secure in what they know, which will leave them in an old world mentality, than to accept that the world changing faster than they can adjust. Those people will go on to repeat old world issues and frustration when they become the minority. This is where spirituality and consciousness comes in the picture; don't mistake that with religious politics. You must think with the deep mind. Spiritual people are use to deleting situations, or doing away with trivial pursuits. We don't need the concept of a leader, because we already have individual family members that fit that description in our own families, its usually someone who has our best interest at heart. In the future, we will form our own groups congruent with our life styles, and our need for defensive protection will also be allocated when needed. Congress can sit down and write laws forever, but it is common sense that we will delete them all.

The real problem includes massive fraudulent Vote Count Fraud. This is not perpetrated by the Voters, but instead, by those entrusted with the job of insuring that they are giving accurate counts, which they are NOT.Canada does NOT use Computers, and they are able to publish the HAND COUNTED results in as little as 4 hours after the polls close. We in the USA, use computers, and look what happened not that long ago in Florida. The election was ultimately decided in the US Supreme Court. An entire MONTH went by, and we as a nation, as a society, were destablised. The software used has been Ruled subject to the protection of propeitary computer softeware. This has allowed those who have an interest in giving us fraudulent results, toenjoy a kind of protection that makes the results of national elections, a sham at best.Every Veteran, Soldier and KIA, or Wounded for Life, did so to PROTECT that which is no longer proptected. Your VOTE.We do not need to prove that they are using fraudulent vote counts, THEY need to prove that they are NOT."FREEDOM!"

@KennethLou but let's say that there's no vote fraud, or that it gets eliminated. won't powerful people still try to ascend to a powerful office - and use that power to abuse liberty?

@Michael Boldin@KennethLou Yes, of course. However, along with this GREAT AWAKENING comes redeication to the Fact that the Price of LIBERTY is Eternal Vigilence.Too many were seduced into the false belief that Liberty is self-sustaining.It isn't, of course, and we must remain vigilent. "there will be blood"..There is no fixing the government. The only question is how far up your a** you are willing to let them go. All your life people have told you that violence is not the answer. Care to take a look at history? Violence is absolutely, and unequivocally, the ONLY answer. Anything less only delays the inevitable. Delude yourself if you want to. Write a letter if you want to. Call your congress critter but "there will be blood".

The states created the federal government - it is their offspring. The federal government is successfully being lawless because the states have neglected their duty to their own citizens to assert the necessary controls over the federal government to make it conform to our laws and according to the limitations imposed by the Constitution for the United States. Nullification is a good tool for the states to use, but so is having the states become strong and self sufficient once again. The states need their own banking system (as is found in North Dakota), they need their own militia once again, and they need to be responsible for funding the federal government functions. Direct taxation of the state's citizens by the feds, as is currently being done, is a program for corruption and lawlessness.

You hit the nail on the head. The only nail remaining to be driven home is the realization that the federal government is not about to let just principles and reason undo what more than two hundred years of conspiracy and madness has achieved.

If you and other Americans are not prepared to enter into another civil war, everyone may as well shut the hell up and take it where it hurts.

I'm waiting for Americans to realize that this nation is here today because of its military victories. The sword is the true American legacy. Are we Americans today or what are we?

How many of you remember that this nation was told to get the unelected government out of the the seen government and then something could happen that is right for the nation? Well, it wasn't in those exact words, but I remember someone that told that to this nation and the world at the same time. He was that guy that the government says they killed a second time in May of this year. No answers to the problems of this nation and the world at large until that is done. President O is not smart enough to do all of this evil on his own, though he does a lot by being their stooge.

As I smoke a big fat one I see but only one, and only one workable option since you Americans have tried most everything legally already and politicians simply do NOT listen.

I suggest you call up the National Guard and go door to door arresting politicians, TSA personell, Homelad Security and FBI spooks for treason.
Then you have a public court by citizens and the military veterans associations and not any lawyers allowed.

But whatever you do, do NOT send those arseholes to Canada because we are busy enough and have our own collection of New World Order psychopaths that need clear cutting.

Give those politicians all a fat Canabis joint by forceful application "Canabis Boarding and air drop them with a slingshot and some marbles in any of the many countries around the world they helped Fuck up.
Put the whole thing on National Pay per view to pay of the National debt.

They only understand that you mean business when you start cutting of their family jewels with their lobbyists lining up for their turn.
Wake up folks because, Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao etc. they are all laughing their asses off in the afterlife wondering how gullible the US public really has become.
Join the minutemen, NRA, local Militia or Fish and Game hunting club because shit is going to hit the fan in such volume you all would believe your USA was build on horse manure and sinking fast.

I've been trying for a few years to make elements of Washington State Government understand the difference between laws which pass constitutional muster, and those that don't. In short, for any rule, order, law, statute, etc. to pass constitutional muster, it must do something to protect the public health, welfare, morals, or safety. Any law, statute, etc. which fails to do so is unconstitutional, and no one is required to obey or comply with any unconstitutional statute. For whatever reason I find myself being forced to try to make public officials such as Steven M. Saxe, Directeor, health Professions and Facilities in Washington State understand that whether a law is passed by the legislature or the public in the form of an Initiative makes no difference; failure to pass constitutional muster still makes that statute, etc. null and void and with no legitimate need for anyone to obey it. Well, since Msr. Saxe apparently cannot comprehend how the Constituiton and/or constitutional laws work, I suppose it's time to file a civil lawsuit against him for failure to bring certain laws into compliance with the Constitution. I hate to have to do that, but it appears that's the only solution to this problem.

A big part of our problem is that the tenth amendment movement, nullification, state's rights, the Constitution etc. can't be utilized by the people behind the movement without leadership in our political process. Whether we like it or not, the candidates are what we are stuck with. There are some positive signs from some that original intent Constitutionalists are vying to run. I see this in Bachman, Palin, and Perry to some extent. Strict Constitutionalists is a must and we have to hold them to it. Then (hopefully), that leader will infest congress with the same.

While I completely agree with the concept of nullification, I think we no longer have the original, organic Constitution established many years ago. We can argue the finer points of voting out our officials or secession, but I think we need to understand where and how our gov't was lost. There's this "Law Document", written around 2 1/3 Centuries ago, that was supposed to be how this nation was designed to operate. And for the first 1 1/2 of those, it was working just fine. Then, as power corrupts, etc, the "elected" officials decided to take unto themselves that authority they were not allowed. And no one reacted. On those occasions when we have, they take a step back. As soon as we drop our guard, here they go again. The 10th Amendment was written for that purpose, and of COURSE the power mad squeal like the ultimate offense has been done to them. Wrong. Backwards. They've commited treason, and they're scared we'll provide proper punishment. We should.

Very nicely said!
Treason is usurping Government. The US Constitution defines our Government. Violations of the US Constitution are Treason.

All politicians who ever voted for an unconstitutional law should be tried for treason & hung.

After that, Congress should get busy voting on & repealing US Supreme Court's Landmark Precedents so citizens can live under the just practice of law.

Problem solved!

Nullifying one bill at a time is too time consuming. And that's actually part of their strategy - to keep us busy with every single issue so that we won't do what really needs to be done - NULLIFY THE WHOLE DAMN FEDERALLY GOVERNMENT! You see - THAT'S what they're really afraid of.

In chess, when an opponent is using a ruse or deceptive moves to keep you busy, what one does is suddenly change to a different part of the board. And begin an offensive in an area where the opponent believes he is secure.

Bring an concerted offensive against one of Obbies minions, say 'Holder', and put the Obamination on the defensive. Remember, it was Obbie that said "If they bring a knife, we'll bring a gun." WARNING WILL ROBINSON! This loquacious arbiter is a rattlesnake. So, we need to bring a Howitzer! (figuratively speaking of course - just as Obama was)

Ron Jones

Nullification combines with Secession, to make a "one-two punch" for the states (the original signatories to the federal compact) to deal with the incorrigible creature of the compact (washington's government)... (See Article VII if you have any doubts about who created whom).

Unfortunately, merely returning to the Compact (as it is currently written) is insufficient... The 14th amendment made every person a subject (slave) of washington's government, while the 17th amendment removed any legal recourse that the states may once have had to rein in washington.

Although the original compact is silent on the matter of secession (which automatically means that under the 9th and 10th amendments, it is a right reserved to the states)... not to mention the fact that without a term limit, withdrawal from any contract (a.k.a. compact) is accomplished merely by giving sufficient notice... Regardless of the opinion of some unelected government lawyer with lifetime tenure says.

Every struggle for political self-determination is a violation of some law, somewhere.

"The principle for which we contend is bound to reassert itself, though it may be at another time and in another form." ~Jefferson Davis

I have paid attention to The Tenth Amendment Center since I first heard about them a couple of years ago, and I do agree with them on just ignoring the Federal Governments laws as a State wide effort to get rid of the CRAZY laws that are enacted by the Washington "leaders"! But, I have also paid close attention to some of the laws that have been enacted in the past few years, and there is one that Presidents like Bush and Obama would like nothing better than to use. I believe that people are intimidated by the Federal Government, so they do not speak out against alot of the outrages that the Federal Government does, and/or they just believe that "someone else will take care of the issues"!! Which complacentcy is a large problem in this Country!!

It's about time people realized that they DO NOT have to "knuckle under" to the federal gov't. just because congress or the president says so. The constitution that the politicians are so fond of quoting and refering to as a "living breathing" document give a DEFINITE description of just what the federal gov't is PERMITTED TO DO. anything NOT expressly GRANTED TO THE gOV'T. BY THAT SAME CONSTITUTION is to be left to the individual states to deal with. Hoo ray for those who are waking up to this fact. Of course the "professional welfare recipients" won't like this idea much at all.

As satisfying as that would be (putting the rope to use) the real battle, as John Adams pointed out is in the Hearts and Minds of the people. We will never escape the arrogance and psychopathic behavior of politicians until WE change the way WE think. Get rid of the roaches, and they'll just be replaced by new roaches. The current mental state of the average "American" is a carefully constructed state of mind - a state of mind where the individual has "rights" to the wealth of others, the government is above the individual and the Constitution, and that the "government" can actually "provide" ANYTHING - which it cannot - it can only steal from one to give to another. We have to work just as hard at changing the attitudes of Americans - which will in turn change everything else...

My fear is that if republicans take the presidency in 2012 then the support for nullification will slowly evaporate under the false belief that a republican president will protect your freedom. What people don't realize is that politicians like power and very few of them give it up which is why, I think, that nullification is the best remedy since it harnesses a politicians lust for power in a positive manor. A state politicians drive for power will but them up against the federal government. A city politicians drive for power will enduce them to want to be the sole masters of their domain and kick out the federal government or even state government. Nullification is like 'legal rebellion'.

I do not know if any of you here whom are posting know this....BUT at one time all state legislatures selected that given states senators. If both or either senator displeased the people their butts were called back and basically FIRED and replaced. What the hell ever provoked these states to give that right up was a knife in the back of all citizens of this country. Imagine Reid or Obomba having his way if that could be reverted back to those goods days when the people really controlled the senate.....another check and balance. Even so, there is still another check and balance...The people's Grand Jury...if we could find a judge whom for a change was on the people's side and ordered the convening of a people's grand jury-the crap would hit the fan. You can put your fears to rest if Ron Paul is voted in as the Republican Presidential Candidate. HE WAS SECOND BY ONLY 150 VOTES TO THE STRAW POLL WINNER - but the mainstream 'powers that be' don't want him in power because he would be an honest President on the side of the people, so they created a media blackout hoping people will not vote for him thinking he is a not a serious contender. My main fear is that people lose their motivation operating under the false assumption that republicans are necessarily for small government. We see that is not true but people will believe that which may lead them to stop supporting movements like the tenth amendment.
