My question: Why did Jefferson not execute the deal as a treaty? Mr. Obama seems to think that the Executive can impose almost anything on us by casting it as a treaty, Constitution be damned. Did Jefferson miss an obvious loophole? Or have latter-day executives been reading the relationship backwards?

Maybe what is confusing is the principals themselves. Since good choice making is simply based on good principals to include in ALL choices it becomes important to know them well and I only know 3 that most certainly apply to all choice making when it comes to me, this country and sovereignty and none have anything to do with my personality and everything to do with being able to do anything.

These are Life, Liberty and the pursuit to Happiness and without including these we EXCLUDE ourselves and it is this simple. Those on a quest to annihilate these are in truth only lying to themselves, Life being the basis of all things.

In truth these are deciding factors that make up the parts of the whole, they are the whole reason we have a Constitution to begin with. Why have Liberty if you refuse to support life? Being allowed in this manner only allows us to achieve our ideas and our dreams causing happiness to even exist. It is really not that difficult if you really put it to use in your own life, but if you don’t you will have no clue what so ever.

An interesting paradox faced Thomas Jefferson in 1803. At least he, the strict constructionist, admitted he had done an act beyond the Constitution. Doing so also meant that we wouldn't later have an inevitable war with France over Louisiana.
Jefferson now blogs briefly on a variety of topics, including the Constitution. Read it at
