I hate to bust anyone's bubble, but everyone is technically a slave of the American Empire, ever since Lincoln's imperial coup of 1861-5. The American government never answered directly to the people, since it wasn't a national government, but an international one among popularly sovereign nations; and so ever since it usurped national authority, it has been an elite oligarchy in which the people can, at best, only choose some of their supreme rulers between the two parties-- and are therefore no more "free," than a slave who is given leave to choose between two masters.
In short, America was taken over by organized politics, and the people have long-ceased to be their own rulers when their international republic became a national empire. Until people choose to face up to this single, incontrovertible FACT, then there's no hope for change-- except change for the worse, as the empire nears collapse.

What is the essence of American Liberty?

Thomas Jefferson answers:

“Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.” Thomas Jefferson

Wrongful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will with no limits, or within limits drawn around us by the inferior rights of others.

Tyranny (from the point of view of a serf) is obstructed action according to someone else's will (the tyrant's will) within limits drawn around us by the superior rights of others (the superior rights of tyrants and those in their favor). Tyranny (from the point of view of the tyrant) is unobstructed action according to the tyrant's will with no limits, or within limits drawn around the tyrant by the inferior rights of others. Thus; tyranny, as per Thomas Jefferson, is wrongful liberty.

Unfortunately over the past one hundred plus years we have seen the continuing encroachment of the executive branch into the realms of the the legislative and judicial branches. What was once the unique system of checks and balances via three separate but equal branches of government has now devolved into nearly a single branch controlled by an extremely partisan agenda and subversive leadership. If there is any reason for the Tea Parties and 912 Movements to exist it must be to restore our nation and its governing bodies to their rightful positions as designed and defined by the principles and conditions prescribed in our Constitution.
