In Tom Wood’s Seminar he refers to Abel Upshur and Upshur’s book, A BRIEF ENQUIRY INTO THE TRUE NATURE AND CHARACTER OF OUR FEDERAL GOVERNMENT:

Just wanted to pass along that the book is available on line at

Great stuff….Mr Woods…Thanks for reminding anyone who cares to dicover it the stuff of which in fact this country has been and still is made..i.e.
the right of states and for revealing the very pragmatic basis ..especially in the East…of the use of this principle when it suited their interests…As I recall that was one of the bases upon which the War Between the States spun….what is good for us (New England) is not good for you (various Southern states…) if we(New England) do not agree with your position re the use of the right….

This lecture and others and this site are so very important in order to disengage the very real principle of the right of states from its forever subsumation under the so called Slavery issue.

    Love it.
