There is a middle ground between the whiners and the violent secessionists. That is that each state that truly wants to be free of federal entanglements sever itself from each entanglement one by one. Start with, say, the right of the state to manage its own schools; or exempting from federal law goods that are manufactured and consumed only within the state. The first victory would lead to further victories by precedent.
The first requirement is leadership- someone with the vision and ability to see and correct the wrongs dealt to the citizenry by a bloated central bureaucracy. It would take courage and discipline and the support of the people politically and financially. It would be costly law suits. It would mean stopping the flow of federal money into the state. It would mean a huge public education effort. It would require staggering sums of money.
1). Where are today's Thomas Jeffersons?
2). Is the situation severe enough for someone of courage to act?
3). Has modern, self-indulgent society the discipline for such an undertaking?
4). Can the citizenry dare stop feeding at the Federal feed trough?
5). Who would contribute their hard-earned dollars in light of 1-4 (above).
Me, I'm saving my money and leaving for sunnier, freer climes...

Guys, the simple fact is that our country is broken. Elections can not solve the problem unless everyone is run out of office at the same time, and that isn't going to happen. Our nation has been reduced to money mongering institutions who think we should keep them afloat.

We have been reduced to a welfare state where people who have worked their entire lives are now asked to keep up lazy sons of bitches who have been on welfare for generations. We have millions receiving welfare aid each month and raising hell when they don't get what they want, but they still manage to buy their cigarettes and alcohol.

We have hospitals struggling with debt because they are forced to care for people who are too lazy to work and or buy insurance. These same people cuss and rant at attendants in emergency rooms when they have to wait to see a doctor for their stuffy nose. I know, I have seen it happen.

I am tired of it. If I could, I would move to another country. The United States is no longer the country that it was meant to be. It is a travesty that the Federal Government now expects so much from the citizens of this once great country, when it should be the other way around.

So do we work for Queen Elizabeth II? We seceded from England didn't we? Were we wrong to do so? This is and was a right to secede -- read the ratifying documents of the constitution for Virginia and New York. Both reserved that right to themselves. It was a cruel joke for Virginia to learn 100 years later that the right that all parties had agreed to was not to be honored by the tryrant Abe Lincoln.

"This act was followed by Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina all removing themselves from the Union. "

Good, but not enough: Missouri enacted an Ordinance of Secession on October 31, 1861. Although there used to be a belief that there was not enough of the legislature present at Neosho to establish a quorum, that was debunked several years ago. Kentucky enacted an Ordinance of Secession on November 20, 1861, although I do not believe they had a quorum of the legislature. Both states were occupied by the US government and unelected governments ruled them.

So, what do you propose to do if people in an area actually DO secede? Will you support dropping bombs on your neighbors?

And, do you think Jefferson, Madison, Paine and Henry were all criminals?

The blueprint for getting this done in an orderly fashion has already been written: "Molon Labe" by Kenneth W. Royce, although the process as he developed it takes awhile, which we may not have... See also "Hologram of Liberty" which explains that all this "unconstitutional" stuff we've been railing about actually is constitutional because while Jefferson was gone to Europe, Hamilton and Madison took the word "expressly" out of the 10th amdt (should read "powers not expressly delegated...").

Joe, I think there's plenty of people who feel the same way you do. There has to be a point where people say enough is enough! While I would be quite happy to see a federal government simply abide by their own rules - the constitution - I would think that sooner or later if they don't, people are going to give up on that concept. Maybe the Free State Project is something you might be interested in...
