Barack Obama and other supporters of unlimited federal power would like us to believe that we can’t uncover the Constitution’s original meaning. In essence, they’re telling us that we don’t have a Constitution at all. Rob Natelson’s new book, The Original Constitution, shows us that such a view is little more than….a crock.
What is the Constitution?
Although the U.S. Constitution provided for a large measure of democratic governance, the Founders knew that there could be too much of a good thing: After all, it was the democratic government of Athens that had killed Socrates. So they imposed law even on those officeholders that were democratically elected.
