KANSAS CITY, Missouri, August 10, 2011 /Tenth Amendment Center/ Detractors call nullification an archaic concept relegated to the dustbin of history.

But the principle certainly sparks wide ranging interest in Missouri and Kansas.

More than 35 groups representing diverse political interests have bonded together to bring the Nullify Now! Tour to Kansas City on Aug. 22.

James Madison said the states have a right and are duty bound to interpose when the feds overreach, and Thomas Jefferson called it, “the rightful remedy.” But what exactly is nullification? What are its origins and history? Can states really declare a law unconstitutional, and null and void within its borders?

The Nullify Now! Tour answers these questions.

“We’ve got exploding debt, war without end, government demanding we purchase a service and federal agents raiding business for the heinous crime of selling whole milk,” Tenth Amendment Center communications director Mike Maharrey said. “Americans are looking for answers and they clearly see those answers aren’t coming from politicians in D.C. The large number of groups from across the political spectrum coming together to make this event possible shows just how ready people are for real, viable solutions to the nation’s problems.”

The national program sponsored by the Tenth Amendment Center and The Foundation for a Free Society, will roll into The Truman Auditoriumis in the Lower Level of the KC Library Plaza Branch on Saturday, Aug. 22. Featuring Harvard and Columbia University educated historian Thomas Woods Jr. as the keynote speaker, the presentation will weave together a logical, moral, and constitutionally sound case for nullification through historical writings, case studies and the words of the founders.

“Nullification isn’t some mystical legal principle buried in cobweb covered books. In fact, it’s so simple, a toddler can do it. You can explain it in one word – No!” Maharrey said. “It’s a principle rooted in the Constitution and woven into the philosophical foundation of the United States. The Nullify Now! presentation makes the case for nullification in an entertaining and captivating way.”

The Nullify Now! Event begins at 10 a.m.
