Shane, thank you for the inspiration. And yet it causes me to wonder if what Einstein said about the definition of insanity applies here: Keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. As long as we keep voting for the system in Washington that has only served to reduce liberty in the last 200 years, we continue to provide for Washington DC the approval of our own enslavement. No one has "fixed" Washington in the last 100 years by being elected to office there.

Perseverance is a necessary ingredient of success, but it in itself is not the total recipe. If what you are doing is not producing the result you desire, you must keep fighting, but you must also change tactics, ask all the successful military commanders of history.

Perseverance is more prevailing than violence and many things which cannot be overcome when they are together, yield themselves up when taken little by little. It is not too much to say that all real growth in the spiritual life-all victory over temptation, all confidence and peace in the presence of difficulties and dangers.

I understand the need for perseverance. But a change in paradigm would be helpful. We continually elect men and women to office who, at best, fail to live up to their billing and, at worst, intentionally misrepresent themselves and their politics. Then we persevere through their term until we can hopefully vote them out of office. Why wait? Why do we not agressively seek for recalls of these persons at the first hint that they are screwing us? Why give them the benefit of a full term to do damage to the Constitution and to our liberties? I know that a recall is not a simple process and, perhaps we should work within our states to make it a simple process. Until we have men and women of good character and worthiness in government, we need to be able to quickly jerk from office the person who is doing us harm. Make anyone think twice before running that if they go against the will of the people they will be back on the streets before they know it.

Yes, absolutely! Having unrealistic short term expectations will do that too - it leads to short term failure, and eventually, nothing for the long term. Perseverance is essential - and setting realistic goals. thanks for writing this piece, Shane!

I think the insanity is there - we the people have been doing the same thing for a century now, and things keep getting worse. We the people have marched on dc, we have called our reps, we have sued in their courts - and we've been doing it for a long, long time. And, we keep voting the bums out too. The result? Year in and year out we get more bums and more violations of the constitution.
